Application of Six Sigma on projects to increase customer satisfaction

The contemporary world has created an intense competition, the primary focus of all organizations is customer satisfaction. It has become essential for organizations not only complete a project within budget and time schedule, but also deliver a world class quality. To achieve this it is essential to implement an adequate measurement and continuous monitoring of system performance management project, which would determine whether improvement goals were met and sustained. This is achieved through the application of six sigma methodology.

Every organization must implement projects meeting or exceeding the expectations of its customers. However, globally, a clear fact is that many projects are not successful because they do not have the expected budget, the expected time or do not have quality standards and the requirements that the customer expects. One of the underlying causes of their failures can be attributed to weak and non-aligned processes resulting from a combination of problems such as a weak project management, poor cost estimates, poor planning and scheduling times, inadequate management requirements, inadequate contingency planning, among many others. To maximize the performance of a project and to improve their chances of success, each organization must build a better project management process, dedicated to meet the most important needs of the customer. The application of Six Sigma, along with a robust and effective management of projects, it is considered an effective tool to drive and accelerate the development and delivery of high quality products within budget and schedule.

Six Sigma is a tool for measuring defects and improving quality, for that reason this was designed to make companies are as successful as possible, since its primary objective is to provide processes reliable world class and value the client. The Six Sigma tool is used primarily in organizations as a methodology to improve processes to achieve operational excellence and business. According to Matt Biagetti this methodology is a disciplined, data-driven approach for eliminating defects in any process from manufacturing to transactional and from product to service.

In this sense the fundamental objective of the Six Sigma methodology is to implement a strategy based on measurement, that focuses on improving processes and reduce variation, managing organizational change by aligning processes and people. The power of Six Sigma to achieve quality in project management, and is particularly useful for project managers and program. For the application of Six Sigma, you have the premise that some of the benefits include the reduction of more than 50% in processing costs, improved runtime, abatement of waste materials, a better understanding of the customer requirements, increased satisfaction and greater reliability in its products and services.

Some benefits accruing to organizations when adopting the principles of Six Sigma to improve the quality of project management include successful projects, consistent and sustainable processes, results that exceed expectations and customer satisfaction, Six Sigma complements and extends to professional project management, but does not replace it. Both disciplines give important to achieve successful business results of contributions. Additionally must take into account that the implementation of Six Sigma projects certainly requires an analysis for application because, as we have seen, involves considerable effort and it should yield measurable benefits or profits and should be applied in cases viable. In organizations already have methods for monitoring projects during implementation, it is proposed that parameters such as the deviations mentioned above are determined, not only in relation to the physical and financial, also the fulfillment of objectives and other agreements with customers.

It is clear that the methodology involves data collection and analysis with a degree of refinement such that it is a way to achieve reduction of defects in products and services. The philosophy behind Six Sigma is that defects in a process are measured, to carry out their systematic elimination and get as close as possible to perfection, is considered to have or work with Six Sigma when they occur more than 3.4 defects per million opportunities

As organizations look for ways to improve their systems, reduce costs, and develop new products to generate more revenue, will continue to refine the project systems. It is time to combine project management with Six Sigma to accelerate the development of product quality within budget and schedule. This integrated approach will better define ways to achieve cost reduction, improved processes, faster implementations, and development of new products. Six Sigma is already being used much but with competition increasing every minute, the need to integrate Six Sigma project management will feel even more in the days to come. Only those businesses that can accomplish this be able to be in a better position to increase profits and market share.

In conclusion, the Six Sigma methodology a set of tools which applied correctly allow a company to become a supplier organization products with a world class level; It is not a simple or easy initiative to apply, but a way to achieve market positioning with high competitive advantage; and the certainty of knowing that everything that the organization produces (whether goods or services) fulfilled beyond customer expectations.
